Susan then moved to Canyon. She was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Canyon and once again, became involved in the Celebrate Recovery program through the church. Born ‎30 Nov 1959 San Jose, California, died ‎20 Dec 2017 Fort Wayne, IN‎, age 58 years
Athena was born in San Jose, Calif. on November 30, 1959 to her loving parents Warren and Susan (Bland) Turney. The family settled in Auburn, Calif. in 1970 when her father A. Warren Turney, M.D. opened his General Surgery practice at Roseville Community Hospital.
Athena attended Ophir Elementary School with her five siblings, and split her High School education between Placer High and Oakmont High Schools. Athena was very active in sports, lettering in Volleyball and Softball. She was on the Yearbook staff for two years and the Principal's Advisory Committee her senior year. She graduated from Oakmont High School in 1978 with honors. She earned her Forestry degree at Sierra College.
Athena married Ken Wonderly of Granite Bay, Calif. in 1979, and they settled their home in Howe, Ind. for the next twenty years. A dedicated mother, she home-schooled her two children: David Adam Wonderly and Eric James Wonderly. In 2001 Athena made her way back to California where she worked with a granite countertop supply company.
Athena loved the outdoors, music, interior decorating, and her family, and was active in state government. She was involved in her church, was passionate about God's love and grace, and would share anything she could to help a friend or stranger no matter her own circumstance. Although she struggled with various medical issues, she never let it dampen her spirits. Everyone knew of Athena's laugh, and she would convey the bright side of whatever trial she was facing. She moved back with her son in 2015 when her health began to fail.
Athena was cared for by her son David and his wife Hilary, while she battled the affects of diabetes and cancer. Her final weeks were spent at Heritage Park Assisted Living and Hospice in Ft. Wayne, Ind., whose amazing staff gave her and her family care and support as they said their goodbyes. The Lord took her home on December 20, 2017 at the age of 58.
She is survived by her parents, Warren and Susan Turney, her siblings Matthew Turney, Brian Turney, Carla Turney Maclay, Mark Turney, and Darren Turney, her brother-in-law and his wife Keith and Chris Wonderly; her children David Wonderly and Eric Wonderly; and her four grandchildren, the loves of her life, Joshua, Sarah, Katey, and Alice Wonderly.
Although she requested no memorial, we honor her life. She was loved in the Roseville Community and I know many who will miss her.
