Mary Morris Elder, daughter of John Morris and Sarah Ellin Morris.Born 1687 St. Ann's Parish, Anne Arundel, Maryland, died 1740, age 52 or 53 years Married/ Related to: John Elder Sr, son of N.N. and Mary Danidge Elder.Born 1683 Saint Annes Parish, Anne Arundel, Maryland, died 1740 Anne Arundel, Maryland, age 56 or 57 years He was married by church bans Oct. 19, 1708 to Mary Morris, whom he had married by common law before that date. He was a member of St. Anne's church. He was a churchwarden in 1729 and in 1737, and with his son John occupied pew. No. 25. His will was made December 29, 1740 and proved March 11, 1740 Child: 1. John Elder JrBorn 14 Oct 1708 St. Ann's Parish, Anne Arundel, Maryland, British Colonial America, died 09 Nov 1762 Taylors Park, Anne Arundel, Maryland, British Colonia America, age 54 years John Elder Jr. was a vestry man in 1744 in St. Anne's Church. On November 15, 1739, John Elder Jr. recieved from his father two tracts of land, Addition to Huntington Quarter and Laxford, in all 150 acres. (A.A. Co. Deeds B.B. No. 3, f. 205). John Elder purchased from Maragret Higginson of the Kingdom of Great Britain, daughter and heir of John Tailor of said Kingdom, part of the tract called Tailor's Park, on May 8, 1744. (A.A. Co. Deeds B.B. No. 2, f. 25) On September 1, 1755, John Elder, gentleman, and Jemima, his wife, sold 199 1/2 acres of a former grant called Elder's Plague. (Balt. Co. Deeds B.B. No. 1, f. 447) The will of John Elder Jr. made September 20, 1762 and proved November 9, 1762 named his lands. He devised: To wife Jemima, slaves and personal estate, she lived on dwelling plantation. To my five sons, John, Owen, Charles, Ely, Elijah Elder, all my lands, namely my dwelling plantation, part of Trailors Park, 660 acres, two tracts in fork of the Patuxent River, Addition to the Huntington Quarter & Laxford. Land in Baltimore County, Adam's Garden, 396 acres, Elder's Puzzle, 160 acres, Elder's Plague, 125 acres, if any son die before reaching age of 21 years, land to surviving sons. To eldest daughter Elizabeth Elder, 10 pounds, to 2 daughters Honor and Jemima Elder, 30 pounds at age of 16 years or marriage. | |||
