Margaret Treadway Tevis, daughter of Henry Treadway and N.N..Born 1713 Baltimore, Maryland, died Oct 1762, age 48 or 49 years Married/ Related to: Robert Tevis Sr, son of Robert Tevis and Suzanne Davies Tevis.Born 1709 Anne Arundel, Maryland, British Colonial America, died 25 Oct 1796 Baltimore, Maryland, age 86 or 87 years Robert Tevis Sr.'s father, Robert Tevis, was jailed sometime before 1721 for failure to pay his debts. His mother, Susanna, died when he was young and he was raised by a kind benefactor. As he spent little time in his father's household, it may explain why he adopted the suffix, Sr. instead of Jr. Robert Sr. married once about 1732 to a woman named Margaret, last name unknown. They are believed to have had 22 children, with 4 daughters and 1 son died as children. There is no indication of multiple births although a partial recording of the births from a Bible indicates that a child was born on average every 16 months and twins have tended to occur in the Tevis family. (Note: This is interesting to me, Abigail Covington, as my own family includes twins, my sisters, born in 1981. My mother is the oldest child of Shirley Tevis Eaves. I'm also finding that almost every Tevis generation have had large families of 6-12 children.) Robert and Margaret are believed to have moved from Anne Arundel County soon after 1747 to Baltimore County where Robert Sr. patented 384 acres on November 18, 1754. "Tivis's Chance" is directly north of Route 26 near the present town of Oakland. A dam was built which created the Soldier's Delight National Environmental Area and flooded cemeteries where the Tevis family were presumed to be buried. Child: 1. Benjamin TevisBorn 1754 Baltimore, Maryland, died 18 Oct 1802 Baltimore, Maryland, age 47 or 48 years | |||
