Jennie Smith MillerBorn 1853 Indiana Married/ Related to: Naaman Tevis Miller, son of Samuel Beholds Miller and Mary Catherine Tevis Miller.Born 11 Jul 1850 Ohio, died 10 Feb 1924 Three Rivers, St Joseph, MI, age 73 years Child: 1. Maude Miller GuteliusBorn 1875 Indiana From my (Hilary's) mom: The other, older lady is my Great-Grandmother, Maude (Miller) Gutelius. She died young, too, (heart attack I think) but I don’t know what year or how old she was. I believe that it was before Mom was born in 1941. Maude and Harry Gutelius owned dime stores in Kendallville and Ligonier. Her brother was also in the business with them, but I don’t know for how long. I vaguely remember hearing that there was a falling out of some sort. Some years after Maude died, Harry remarried. When his health failed, his second wife kind of left the picture and he moved into a trailer behind my Grandma’s house just south of Kendallville. Grandpa Summers built an enclosed hallway between the trailer and the back bedroom so that Grandma could take Harry’s meals to him without going outside. I remember visiting him in his trailer. He always gave me a piece of his horehound candy. At least once, we took him to the nursing home in Lagrange to visit his 2nd daughter, Martha Lucille, whom we called “Aunt Babe”. She had been married to a relatively wealthy man. I have a diamond pin that was hers (she is wearing it in the family photo on my kitchen wall). When (uncle) Greg was born, Harry gave him a glass bank full of 50 cent pieces. I think he died soon after that because I don’t remember anything else. Dad has his old tweed overcoat. | |||
